Why
Train My Dog?
Dogs
are pack animals
by nature (meaning they
thrive in close-knit social groups) and require a stable and
well-structured environment to be happy. They need to know where they
belong in the family "pack"
and thoughtful, careful obedience training
is a great way to establish this "pack
order" in your dog's mind. It
will open the lines of communication and eliminate confusion that can
lead to problems like ill-mannered behavior, excessive barking, even
biting.
While
the dog training methods of yesterday included
fearsome devices, heavy-handed leash corrections and domination to
train the dog, much has been learned and discovered since then. Dogs
are highly intelligent creatures, and don't require harsh, unpleasant
corrections or loud, repetitious verbal commands to learn... in fact,
these things can hurt more than they help - causing your dog to obey
out of fear, more than anything.
Dog
training can
and should
be fun for
both you and your furry companion. A good training program entails much
more than simply teaching your dog basic commands... it should be
custom-tailored to your dog's unique personality and drive, excercising
your dog's mind and establishing clear lines of communication between
you and your dog. Extensive studies in the field of canine behavior
have proven that the most effective dog training comes in the form of
understanding your dog, and teaching your dog to understand you through
a gentle, balanced training method.
